2025 Paddle Australia Canoe Ocean Racing Championships

Friday 7 – Sunday 9 February 2025
Ulladulla, South Coast, NSW

Welcome to MAKAI Cup 2025

The MAKAI Cup is a big OPEN OCEAN event of approximately 22km along a very isolated stretch of coast and your safety on the water is paramount.

MAKAI Cup has a two day window allowing for the best opportunity to get the SAFEST conditions.

Preference will ALWAYS be given to the Saturday.

The MAKAI Cup is for experienced paddlers only – no first timers. For any first timers we have the Mini MAKAI 10 race.

MAKAI Cup Course Options

MAKAI Cup has several course options, and many variations have been used over the years to provide the safest option.

Start time is 1300 (TBC).

Race courses and start times are confirmed on the Friday night prior to race day (7 February) to deliver the safest conditions.

The 2 main courses used are as follows;

Northerly Course

From Sussex Inlet to Ulladulla Harbour

Distance approx. 22km

Cutoff Point Located approx. 3-4 km from start. If minimum progress has not been achieved, you will be directed to Bendalong to be transported back to the finish area. This is a safety requirement to ensure all support boats can remain with the fleet.

Southerly Course

From Bawley Point to Ulladulla Harbour

Distance approx. 23km

Cutoff Point Located approx. 5km from the start, this cutoff will ensure you have made sufficient progress along the course in the prevailing conditions. If insufficient progress has been made you will be directed towards the north side of Tabourie Island to exit the water.

Keep in mind, Ulladulla Harbour is our race HQ. All registrations, race finish, presentations, and after race party will be held at the MAKAI Marquee on the south side of Ulladulla Harbour.
